A Traditional Bamboo Music
25 December 2015. Today is Christmas day. I think today is a special day because this is the first time I celebrate the Christmas day in Ketapang, Indonesia. It is located in a remote area of Ketapang, kecamatan Riam, Jelay Hulu. It is about my experience during a period of time, especially today I spent my time after the break of Christmas pray in the morning. We go to the Perigi village, one of the places is not too far from Riam. It needs about 30 minutes to arrive there. In Perigi area, i see the traditional ceremony called "Sengkayung". Sengkayung is traditional bamboo music which able to play by 4 music player. this music contains four main part of song title;
1. Sengkumang(is the incarnation of men become a dog)
2. kemantan (is the fruit)
3. kuduk (a dog)
4. panggung kuduk (a place for dogs to sleep)
This is a piece of traditional music as a means thanksgiving day for the gathering of fruit that has given and blessed by the almighty of God. The power of gratefulness for this ceremony while the music is turned on all participants of the ceremony should enjoy the banquet of the fruit.
This music is very unique. while the music is playing I think we can feel the power of the authentic chord of fours bamboo. the shape of this bamboo was close to the "Angklung" music. But I do not mean that it came from a similar story. I would like to emphasize that traditional music was born to raise up the folklore of that place itself. _Agustinus Marjun_
